With no gardening work to do in the winter I needed something to do. I had the idea to write my memoirs in the form of a website. I had already built a site for a landscape gardener. I taught myself to use Xtheme Pro and developed the site in wordpress. It was a huge site for my first project but the experience was invaluable.

I couldn’t afford to pay for hosting or the licence to use XTheme so I researched the free alternatives.
The downside of free services is that there are restrictions. Of all the free hosting and front end builders, Wix offered enough customisation to satisfy my artistic demands. That was when I realised I could offer what I’d learnt and my design skills to other people, and create websites at an affordable price. I could earn a little cash and use my time more productively.
I posted on a local neighbourhood site to see if I could find someone who needed help with a website. I got four responses straight away but no takers. I realised I had to have something to show people. It was no good just saying I could do it.
The following posts on this blog are about the journey I embarked upon to demonstrate what was possible in a short space of time without having to spend monumental amounts of money.
